Let's get something straight: I can't tell you if Team Cherry plans to do anything else. Hollow Knight games. That doesn't mean there's more Hollow Knight on the way. Shelksong will receive… anythingsomeday, in the future. However! Studio heads William Pellen and Ari Gibson have at least floated a hypothetical idea of how the world of Hollow Knight could get bigger.
Remember when ACMI (Australian Center for the Moving Image) put on a small exhibition where was the playable demo of Silksong earlier this year? Well, as I shared GamesRadarattended the same exhibition small guide filled with concept art, maps, and interviews with the Cherry team.
Exhibit co-curator Jeanie Maxwell asked Pellen and Gibson how they would define success ShelksongBoth noted that “releasing without major bugs” would be a good start. “I think the ‘goal’ has already been achieved,” Pellen explained. “We had an idea for a game that we wanted to make, and we wanted to make the best version of that game, a version of the game that fit the theme, the best version we could make.”
Gibson added to this by stating that the goal was to make Silksong “a game that could stand next to Hollow Knight,” a game that “branched out nicely in some ways; I think they really complement each other.” Here's what Gibson says interestingly: “I don't think you'll feel like you've lost anything going back to the original game after playing Silksong. And if there were ever others, we hope that they all follow the same pattern – that the entire series represents games that simply exist next to each other.”
Ahah! Here it is! A quote that will convince the masses that new Hollow Knight games are in the works. Of course, again, there is no way to know. And yet this comment calms me down. I'm glad that Silksong is largely a standalone experience separate from the original Hollow Knight, and if this world is to be explored again, it should do the trick again. Although I wouldn't mind if Sherma showed up somewhere else.
