Trump says people want federal help as Chicago Loop riot leaves 8 shot, 1 dead

President Donald Trump said Saturday that Chicagoans are asking to “get Trump involved” amid a recent crime wave in the Democratic-run city.

At least eight teenagers were shot, one fatally, and several police officers were attacked Friday after rioting broke out in the Chicago Loop, the city's central business district.

“Massive crime and disorder in Chicago Loop. Several police officers were attacked and seriously injured. 300 people rioting, 6 victims shot, 1 critical and 1 DEAD,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Saturday.

“Meanwhile, Governor Pritzker and the low-IQ mayor of Chicago are refusing federal aid over a situation that can be quickly corrected,” he added. “People are chanting: BRING TRUMP!!!”

A riot following the Christmas tree lighting ceremony broke out near State and Randolph streets around 10:00 pm Friday, FOX 32 Chicago. reported.

City Alderman Brian Hopkins 2nd Ward Chicago reported that 300 minors rioted and attacked officers with mace and a stun gun.

At least one officer was hospitalized with injuries, he said.

At least six children were shot, including a 13-year-old, two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old.

Less than an hour later, the 14-year-old boy was shot and later died in the hospital. An 18-year-old man was also wounded.

The brutal weekend came just days after a person with a long criminal history was accused of mercilessly setting a woman on fire while she was traveling on a train in Chicago.

Lawrence Reed, 50, who officials said “had no business being on the streets,” is accused of committing a terrorist attack or other violence against the public transit system.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson later called the attack on the train an “isolated incident.”

Records show Reed has been arrested at least a dozen times since 2017 on charges including aggravated arson and multiple counts of battery.
