Late Friday night, President Trump issued a dramatic announcement to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for thousands of Somali nationals in Minnesota.
The move, which will take effect immediately, binds the decision to massive fraud In recent days, it was discovered that taxpayer money was allegedly being funneled to the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
“Minnesota, under the leadership of the governor (Democrat Tim Walz), is the center of fraudulent money laundering activity,” Trump said in his speech. Minnesota is still reeling from the $250 million cap hit. Feeding our future case of fraud and fresh reports of terrorist financing coming through the state's Somali community, Trump's move is a direct blow to the bastion of progress.
This week's report from City Magazine The COVID-era Feed Our Future program scams looked like small potatoes by comparison. Minnesota, according to the report, suffered billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded fraud under Walz, much of it allegedly perpetrated by members of the state's large Somali community.
They benefited from one of the most generous safety nets in the country: Minnesota's Medicaid Housing Stabilization Services program. While Democratic officials and obedient media turned a blind eye to this.
We're talking about billions of dollars of lost taxpayer funds. And it gets worse. Federal counterterrorism sources told City Journal that millions of stolen dollars were funneled to Somalia and ultimately funded the terrorist group al-Shabaab.
One confidential source told the publication: “Al-Shabaab's largest funder is the Minnesota taxpayer.”

Minnesota is home to one of the largest Somali communities in the country. The TPS program offers Somali citizens temporary refuge to live and work here legally because their home is in a war zone.
TPS for Somalis was last extended in accordance with Biden administration and was supposed to be in effect until March 17, 2026. There won't be any more. It is, as the President declares, “over.”
Defiant Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-5), responding to a random message from X, responded to President Trump's decision to end TPS for Somalis in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
“I am a citizen, like (most) Somalis in America. Good luck celebrating a policy change that won't really have much of an impact on the Somalis you love to hate,” she responded. “We're here to stay.”

Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, covering most of Minneapolis and surrounding areas in Hennepin and Ramsey counties, is home to highest concentration Somali Americans in the USA
This June, President Trump limited entry foreign citizens from Somalia, calling the country a safe haven for terrorists.
Omar moved to the United States in 1995 when she was 12 years old. She and her family fled the civil war in Somalia and lived in a refugee camp in Kenya for four years before resettling in the United States.
Trump has often remind her that the country is a hellhole and that when she criticizes the United States, she can always book a flight home.
