Raptors advance to knockout round of NBA Cup

TORONTO — Brandon Ingram had 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Toronto Raptors beat the Washington Wizards 140-110 on Friday to advance to the Emirates NBA Cup.

The Raptors' win over Washington, coupled with the Indiana Pacers' 120-109 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in the evening, secured Toronto's spot in the season-long playoffs.

For the first time, the Raptors advanced beyond the group stage of the NBA Cup. They are the first team to earn a place this season.

R.J. Barrett, from Mississauga, Ont., scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Toronto (11-5) won its sixth straight game. Scottie Barnes added 23 points, including 14 in the third quarter.

Tre Johnson came off the bench with 14 points, and Swiss-Canadian forward Keyshawn George contributed five points, four assists and three rebounds.

Both teams rested their starters with over four minutes remaining in the game.

Raptors: The game was relatively even at halftime, with Toronto leading 57-47 after two quarters. The Raptors opened the game in the third, outscoring the Wizards 48-30 in the period alone, thanks to Barnes' 14-point shooting in the quarter.

Key Point

Washington swingman Bilal Coulibaly's dunk in the opening minute set up the first basket of the game. The Raptors responded by scoring 11 straight points and never relinquishing the lead.
