PM Carney in Johannesburg as G20 meetings kick off, set to meet with numerous leaders – Brandon Sun

JOHANNESBURG – Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Johannesburg for the G20 summit, where he will meet with leaders of Canada's closest partners.

Carney met with French President Emmanuel Macron this morning to discuss geopolitical issues as well as Canada's collaboration with European defense firms through the ReArm Europe initiative.

Carney will meet today with leaders from Jamaica, Norway, Germany, Britain, the European Union and the World Trade Organization.

He will also take part in formal meetings with G20 leaders, including a morning session on inclusive economic growth, such as reforming development finance, and an afternoon session on climate change, food systems and clean energy.

In between those meetings, Carney will attend an event between the European Union and Vietnam, which leads a trading bloc of Asia-Pacific countries including Canada that believe in rules-based trade.

Carney is set to discuss the war in Gaza, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the responsible use of artificial intelligence and Canada's role in energy security.
