Stephen Colbert criticized New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, falsely claiming that “everyone in America sees something” in the 34-year-old's message of democratic socialism.
Thursday on CBS The Late Show with Stephen ColbertThe leftist anchor sat down with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), recalling, “You campaigned for Mayor-elect Mamdani,” holding up a photo of the Massachusetts senator standing next to the mayor-elect of New York.
Colbert went on to try to brand big government policies as an “affordable” solution, before whimsically declaring that “everyone in America sees something” in them.
“Even though New York has its problems and problems — and New York doesn't necessarily vote the way the rest of the country votes — its message of accessibility, its message of workers' rights and dignity, I think is very powerful, and, you know, it may open in New York, but as a Broadway show, it would do very well on a national tour,” he said.
“Some people say it's just for New York. I disagree, I think it defined something that, yes, New York has with its diverse population, but everyone in America sees something in it for themselves,” Colbert added.

The left-leaning late-night host then said, “By the way, the complaints are the same on both sides of the aisle.”
Senator Warren responded by further ramping up the Colbert hype by touting Mamdani as someone who was “really committed to making his city more affordable for working families.”
Like Breitbart news reportedMamdani – originating from radical roots — advocated for a controversial plan for a city grocery store that is, in fact, frustratingly based on non-existent funds.
It is noteworthy that recent New York Times profile marked that Mamdani first became involved in politics in high school, when he ran for student body vice president at the elite Bronx High School of Science, where he made campaign promises including fresh juice for everyone, squeezed from local fruits, which he later admitted was “simply impossible.”
