Ari was walking With Cynthia Erivo, Michelle YeohAnd Jeff Goldblum when the man suddenly jumped up, grabbed her and pulled her towards him. Ariana looked scared as she tried to pull away before Cynthia jumped, pushed him away and screamed, “Let her go!” She and Michelle then turned to comfort Ari, holding her between them as security worked to de-escalate the situation.
People were incredibly grateful that Cynthia responded so quickly. One person wrote“The way Cynthia moved between multiple people faster than the security even started to activate is both very impressive and such a challenge.” Another added: “People don't realize how scary it really is and that situations like this can easily turn ugly. Christina Grimmie was killed point-blank in front of fans at an obsessive fan meet and greet.”
People also commented on how “unacceptable” it was, especially in light of the attack at Ariana's Manchester concert in 2017, which left 22 hundreds more were killed and wounded.
“Poor Ariana,” said another. “She looked scared. Thank God beautiful souls like Cynthia and Michelle protected her. Cynthia went into full bodyguard mode. It made me cry. 😭😭🥰🥰”
IN interview on TodayCynthia recounted the viral moment when she intervened to defend Ariana, who she lovingly called her sister. “I wasn't really thinking,” she said of the moment. “I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe.”
Cynthia added: “I'm sure he didn't mean us harm, but you never know with these things and I wanted to make sure she was okay. That was my first instinct.”
I'm sure Ariana is very grateful for this. May we all be blessed with Cynthia Erivo in our lives.
