LA28 hopes to sell more tickets for 2028 Games more than any other Olympic organizing committee in history, and on Thursday a private group launched a fundraising campaign to ensure those tickets are available to local fans.
As part of the fundraiser, local sports teams, philanthropists and partners are invited to donate tickets, which will go to local organizations that will distribute the tickets in their communities. The Rams are the first partners to donate $5 million to the campaign.
“The 2028 Olympics and Paralympics are for everyone,” LA28 President Casey Wasserman said in a statement. “This program is designed to ensure that people who live, work and contribute to the spirit of Los Angeles can have access to the Games taking place in their home city. We are incredibly grateful to Stan Kroenke and the Rams for leading the way for the benefit of the people of their city. This is a true partnership in action, and we look forward to welcoming others to this meaningful initiative.”
Registration for tickets will open in January, and single tickets will start at $28. Amid concerns about skyrocketing prices for sporting events, LA28 said it would not use dynamic pricing common for major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup.
Tickets for the World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States next year, will start at $60 for some group stage matches and rise to $6,730, soccer's international governing body said this year. Excluding the opening and closing ceremonies, ticket prices for the Paris Games ranged from €24 (about $27) to €950 ($1,097).
Leading up on GamesThe Paris organizing committee allocated more than 1 million tickets at 24 euros each and guaranteed that half of the tickets sold to the general public would cost 50 euros or less. Hoping to make the Games relatively affordable for fans, Paris 2024 used “tailored pricing”, which aimed to use the 15% of tickets offered at the highest prices to allow millions of tickets at lower prices.
The Paris Games sold a record 12 million Olympic and Paralympic tickets, helping the organizing committee exceed its original estimate of ticket and hospitality revenue by $365 million.
Organizers of LA28 expect to provide 14 million tickets to the biggest Olympic Games in history and the first Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Once fans register for a ticket lottery that begins in January, purchasing windows will open this spring. Fans living near Olympic Games cities will have access to pre-sales opportunities.
Olympic Games scattered around more than 40 locations, most of which are located in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Inglewood and Carson. Southern California residents and Oklahoma City softball and canoe slalom residents selected to participate in the pre-sale will have access to all tickets to all sites.
Tickets for the Paralympic Games will go on sale in 2027.
