Early Black Friday Chromebook deals began at Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers a week before Black Friday. I've rounded up PCWorld's best Chromebook deals over the past few years (including Black Friday and Prime Day), and these are usually the best deals of the year.
I'm hoping for a return to normalcy this holiday season: President Trump has eased some of his tariff restrictions, which may mean Chromebook sellers feel they can put Chromebooks on sale without hurting their own profits. However, my collected suggestions are highly dependent on price. Times are tough now.
For now, I'm adding a few deals on used/refurbished Chromebooks as a sort of “ultra-budget” category option. (I still recommend new devices.) I've been tracking Chromebook deals for the past few years, so I have a good idea of ​​what to buy and what to pay. In each category, I've listed the best Chromebook deals I could find and then explained why I think you should buy them. Check out our list best chromebooks for more ideas.

This Black Friday, I'm trying something different: adding an option for previously owned refurbished Chromebooks from Amazon's Renewed program, which come with a 30-day warranty. (Walmart Restored has a 90-day return period.) Use it if you need to!
If you don't mind a little risk with a refurbished product, the Asus Chromebook at the top of the list is ideal: a good, modern dual-core processor, 8GB of RAM for lots of tabs, and a nice big 1080p display. This is a completely safe deal. New, I expect to pay at least $200 and closer to $300. The Acer 315 has a slight memory loss, but that's about it. The Acer 515 is also a great deal.
However, the Renewed program absolutely hides some nasties: Chromebooks with processors more than ten years old. For now, the listed HP Chromebook x360 and Dell 3100 are at the bottom of the barrel—or at least what I can live with. They are small, slow, but functional.

Budget Chromebooks are all about compromises. There are no 8GB RAM deals in this case, which is what I would prefer.
These entries are very similar, but I recommend the Asus CX15 because it offers more storage space and a three-month Google Gemini subscription trial, which gives it some edge. But the IdeaPad 3i is an amazing deal, and that might convince you. The downside is the 4GB of RAM will allow you to open fewer tabs than on an 8GB machine, but that's not a huge downside.
Don't be afraid of Mediatek Kompanio chips – they're just Arm processors, and Chrome OS runs great on them. In fact, Kompanio is a noticeably better processor with lower power consumption (increased battery life!) and better performance.
Why include the Lenovo 14-inch Chromebook at the end? Because the price is actually lower than the previous one deals I saw it. In other words, Amazon is offering a clearance sale without actually advertising it as such.

Right now, I would recommend you to buy the Asus CX14, which is number one on the list. In my opinion, it offers the best value for money: it checks all hardware parameters without requiring you to spend money. If you're in the market for a Chromebook Plus, the Lenovo Flex 5i or HP x360 are good choices. (Do you need a Chromebook Plus?) A good mid-range or premium Chromebook includes at least 8GB of RAM, a powerful processor, and a 1080p or higher resolution screen. It all fits.
The Asus CM30 is a tablet, not a clamshell Chromebook, but if you don't mind, the specs are excellent. Some of the earlier Chromebook deals have been cancelled, leaving less choice than before.
Google's premium Chromebook sits at the bottom of this list of offerings, with more expensive options. Some of them come with an extended Google Gemini subscription and a Google AI subscription. Read the list and find out if it's right for you. All three Chromebook Plus models listed here will work fine, although the price may vary by $200. I tend to recommend cheaper devices if I can justify their performance.

Retailers have already started discounting Chromebooks to prepare for the official Black Friday date. Sales should increase even more as Black Friday approaches. Retailers certainly aren't shy about holding early sales to unload inventory before the Black Friday madness begins! Just beware of the “mean season” when retailers increase sales, then raise prices and then Black Friday discount again.
How much should you pay for a Chromebook Black Friday deal?
Tariffs and shortages have me a little wary this holiday season.
I'm hoping that “budget” Chromebooks will be priced between $150 and $200, and the type of Chromebook we recommend (see below for more details on that) will be under $350 in the weeks leading up to Black Friday. With Black Friday approaching, prices should drop a little more. I'm not sure budget Chromebooks will ever drop below $100, even on a Black Friday sale like they did in 2024.
In general, we put our best deals at the top of our lists. I definitely take price into account when choosing, but I'm looking value: best value for money. I feel like I really get a good deal when I get the most for my money, and I want to help you get the same.
Please note that I am also experimenting with some refurbished options to offer even cheaper options.
What features should I look for in a Chromebook this Black Friday?
When choosing a Chromebook, we still prioritize three things: memory, display (size and resolution), and processor.
Retailers are still trying to get rid of Chromebooks with 4GB of RAM, 768p screens and ancient processors. Ignore them for the most part. Some of these can be justified as budget Chromebook options, but I really think you deserve a Chromebook with at least 8GB of RAM, a 1080p (1920×1080) or better screen (a screen size larger than 13 inches if possible), and a relatively modern processor. I don't put much stock in the processor, if only because Chromebooks don't require a lot of power.
The 1080p screen provides a laptop-like viewing experience. Keep in mind that “HD” does not mean 1080p! This essentially means 768p, which will be a bit of a strain on your eyes. “Full HD” or “FHD” corresponds to 1080p resolution. We're even seeing some mid-range Chromebooks offer 1200p screens, which provide a little more resolution to ease eye strain.
Our recommended processors include Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium, Intel Core chips, AMD Ryzen processors, and Arm chips from MediaTek or Qualcomm. They all have their pros and cons, although the performance difference probably won't make as much of a difference as the extra memory. More memory (i.e. 8 GB instead of 4 GB RAM) allows you to use more browser tabs and provides a smoother browser experience.
Onboard storage isn't really a big deal, although an SSD of at least 32GB is preferable for storing apps, documents, screenshots and the like.

Should I buy a Chromebook through the Amazon Renewed or Walmart Restored program?
Normally I wouldn't recommend you buy a used product because who knows what it's been through. But let's face it: cutting prices can be your friend. Amazon Renewed offers a 30-day guarantee and Walmart's Restored program has a 90-day return period, and I would recommend that if you go this route, do a thorough check and then return it if you don't think it works as expected.
However, any updated program can often hide a Chromebook that was created many years ago. I will recommend refurbished Chromebooks if I think they might be a good deal, but be careful when buying any old refurbished Chromebook. You may encounter a stinker.
