Police have released photographs of the woman they are looking for in connection with the case. shooting of a man who was abandoned behind a hospital in the Bronx.
The suspect, 20 to 25 years old with long red hair, a tattoo on her right forearm and a black top, fled the scene after Jontay Davis, 21, was shot twice in the head in a vehicle around 2 a.m. Sept. 2, police said. Police found Davis behind St. Barnabas Hospital and threw him inside, but he could not be saved, police said.
Xavier Kearney, 23, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon Monday in connection with the shooting of Davis. He was ordered held without bond Tuesday during his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
On September 11, nine days after the shooting, police arrested 22-year-old Desin Edwards, who was also ordered held without bail after being charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Kearney lives in Soundview in the Bronx and Edwards lives in Flatbush in Brooklyn, police said.
They and the female suspect were in possession of two firearms, according to court documents. It remains unclear who actually fired the shots.
The victim's heartbroken mother said Davis had just graduated from high school and wanted to become a mechanic.
“He was a wonderful child,” she said.
Davis' older sister created a GoFundMe to help cover his funeral costs.
Her brother, she wrotewas “left for dead in the back of St. Barnabas Hospital, abandoned as if he were nothing.”
“The pain and shock of losing him in such a heartbreaking and cruel way is something our family will carry forever,” she said.
“Jontay was only 21 years old, full of life, dreams and love for the people around him. He was a son, brother, uncle and friend who deserved so much more time here with us. Jontay also lived with autism, which gave him a unique and beautiful way of seeing the world,” she wrote. “He touched everyone he met with his kindness, big heart and special spirit.”
