Merry Christmas! Here's an early treat: Writer/director Thomas Bezucha is working on a sequel to the 2005 holiday classic. Family stone. The original film centers on matriarch Sybil Stone, played by Diane Keaton, as she gathers her chaotic family for one last Christmas after being diagnosed with breast cancer. At the end of the film, the family is reunited in her memory the following year. Now Bezucha is doing the same, honoring Keaton after her death on October 11although he still planned to write the script for the second film. “I had been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months while I was working on her, and this was already a blow to a tender bruise,” Bezucha said. CNN. “Mentally, I spend time in that house where I’ve been missing her for a long time.” Now he says he wants to “honor her even more” by doing “like the rest of the cast” with a new script set after Sybille's death.

Nothing other than a potential script has been confirmed yet, but before he started writing, Bezucha asked his producer to contact the actors from the original film because “I'm not interested in a Brady family reunion without the original Ian,” he told CNN. Apparently, everyone was unanimous in expecting a continuation. Potential returnees include stars Craig T. Nelson as Stone the Patriarch; Rachel McAdams and Elizabeth Reaser as the Stone sisters; and Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson and Tyrone Giordano as the Stone brothers. In the first film, they were joined by Claire Danes and Sarah Jessica Parker as sisters who are also the love interests of the Mulroney brothers and Wilson, and Brian J. White as the love interest of the deaf gay brother portrayed by Giordano. With the original film currently available to stream on Disney+, there's never been a better time to get the whole family stoned.
