Less than a month after release Tales of Xilia updatedBandai Namco has announced What Tales of Berseria: updated master class will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Windows PC on February 27, 2026. While Bandai Namco is seriously working on its current updated project – and it's great, don't get me wrong – choosing Berseria seems like a missed opportunity to focus on what's important.
Released in 2016 in Japan for PlayStation 3. Tales of Berseria stands out for retaining the series' traditional action sequences while presenting a more serious and darker story of revenge. Velvet Crow, a woman who turned into a type of demon called a therion, Tales of Berseria also considered a light prequel to Tales of Zestiria since the action takes place in the same world, and the events in the first take place 1000 years before the events of the second. Later in 2016 Berseria received a version for PlayStation 4, and then, in 2017, a version for Windows PC.
What Berseria whether there will be a remastering is only a matter of when, not if. In celebration of the 30th anniversary Tales of series, in December 2024 Bandai Namco announced Tales of Series – updated projectwhich is defined as a long-term plan to bring classic games in the series to “next-gen consoles with quality of life improvements.” The first two title games under this initiative were Tales of Grace F updatedreleased on January 15, and Tales of Xilia updatedwhich will appear on modern platforms on October 31. Prioritizing these games made sense, given that you need a PlayStation 3 – or a Wii for Tales of the Graces — still play them.
Although an updated version planned for next year will make Tales of Berseria even more accessible by adding it to other platforms' libraries – and hopefully fixing some localization issues in post-game quests – it's already quite accessible. The biggest appeal of the 30th anniversary project is the games that are almost impossible to play today. No matter how good Berseria This means you can easily purchase it during the Steam sale or download the PS4 version on PS5 and enjoy the game. Considering the Tales of series, which began in 1995, with Fantasy tales There are few games on the Super Famicom that could benefit more significantly from the time, energy, and financial support required for a remaster.
Everyone's favorite recording Tales of the Abyssshould certainly be the focus now. Considered one of the best games in the long-running JRPG series. Abyss is now only available to those lucky enough to own the Nintendo 3DS or PlayStation 2 version. Take any list of the “best Tales games” and you'll see that the story of Luke von Fabre ends up in the top three most of the time.
Next, to make this project a complete tribute to the series, I would like to see Fantasy tales remastered in some capacity. Revisiting the first title will help new audiences understand the history of the Tales of series, a movement that we see has been created by other developers and also published by the likes of Square Enix with its Dragon Quest series. (Another great remaster option is Tales of the Stormgame for the Nintendo DS, released exclusively in Japan.)
I understand that remastering old games is not an easy task. We know, for example, that original The latest fantasy tactic the code was lost. In the case of the Tales series, while the source material appears to still be available, creating remasters involves searching and analyzing old data. According to MachineTales of IP general producer Yusuke Tomizawa explained during his panel at The Tokyo Game Show 2025 that “it's a little confusing, but since several different development studios have worked on the series over the years, we need to find the source data first. And when we do find it, it may be full of gaps that will take months of analysis to resolve.” However, rather than re-releasing games that are already widely played, I'd rather see remasters of games that may have been lost to time, e.g. Tales of the Graces And Tales of Xilia.
