Asus to ramp up Xbox Ally production after demand exceeds expectations

Last month, Microsoft and Asus released ROG. Xbox ally And Xbox Ally Xpremium portable gaming PCs running on the Windows operating system and second hardware infrastructure. While the devices were generally well received, criticism came from their price, with the Xbox Ally costing $800 and the Xbox Ally X costing $1,300.

Still, the high price doesn't seem to be a deal breaker for the devices just yet. During a recent investor presentationAsus said demand for both portable devices has actually exceeded expectations, leaving them in short supply.

“WITH [the Xbox Ally range] We've seen the market response to it have been extremely positive, with appetite for premium models in particular exceeding our expectations. These high-end variants are currently in short supply,” Asus said. “We are working closely with key component suppliers to ramp up production and fill the existing demand gap. Our goal for ROG Ally is to remain a core part of Asus' gaming portfolio.”

As a result of the better-than-expected launch, Asus expects Xbox Ally device revenues to be between US$96 million (CAD$134.4 million) and US$160 million (CAD$224 million) this quarter, with revenues between US$130 million (CAD$182 million) and US$160 million (CAD$224 million) in future quarters. However, Asus did not confirm how many units of devices were sold.

Either way, it's interesting to hear about the high demand. In addition to the fact that the devices are quite expensive, there is a lot of competition in the field of gaming portable devices. After valve started this trend with the release of Steam Deck in 2022.we've seen portable gaming PCs like the Asus ROG Ally line and Lenovo Legion Go. (And next year, Valve is further blurring the lines between consoles and PC with recently announced Steam Machine.) In addition to the portable gaming PC, there's the Nintendo Switch 2 for $629. which is ahead of its predecessor.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has hinted that its partnership with Asus is part of a broader initiative to combine the “best of Xbox and Windows” into one device. In this regard, Xbox President Sarah Bond recently hinted that the company is working on a “very premium” console that will copy the ideas of the Xbox Ally devicespresumably in regards to its PC-like functionality.
