A post on Reddit claims that Fizz Mobile's website crashed recently, making it possible to sign up for a 5G plan along with the current list of 4G LTE plans.
MobileSyrup I was able to repeat this glitch. However, Fizz's website has since stopped working (possibly due to Cloudflare crashed this morningjudging by the errors that we saw) – now that it is back, there is no glitch. Fizz also did not respond to questions about the 5G outage before publication.
Those who noticed the glitch were unable to click on the new title as it disappeared too quickly once the page loaded, but it's no surprise that Fizz is likely to move to the 5G spectrum. Videotron, which owns Fizz and Freedom Mobile, is making a concerted effort to expand both providers further across Canadaand Fizz's addition of some low-cost 5G plans will definitely help with that. 5G could also benefit high-traffic areas such as concerts, which would be beneficial for Fizz users.
However, Fizz is currently missing some basic features like Wi-Fi calling and RCS on iPhone, which is likely holding more people back than the lack of 5G. However, it's possible these things will launch alongside 5G service when/if it's announced.
Since 5G plans appear in a separate tab, it's more than likely that they will cost more than existing 4G options. However, Fizz always has some pretty great deals, so I expect the 5G plans to be very competitive with Public Mobile's plans and other cheaper 5G plans.
