Stephen Curry passes Vince Carter on NBA’s all-time scoring list

Stephen Curry still remembers playing one-on-one against Vince Carter as a kid. And that's what made Curry's latest achievement even more special.

The league's 3-point king passed Carter as the NBA's leading scorer on Tuesday night, moving him to 22nd all-time. The highlight was the 34-point performance, although Golden State lost to the Orlando Magic 121-113.

Curry now has 25,749 points, 21 more than Carter.

“It's always an honor when you pass such great people,” Curry said.

This milestone came on the day of the Warriors celebration; freshman Will Richard received his NCAA championship ring from the University of Florida in a surprise ceremony earlier in the day. And then Curry wasted no time in getting past Carter for a 3-pointer in the second quarter.

Dell Curry, Stephen Curry's father, spent his last three seasons as a player with the Toronto Raptors, the team Carter started with. So Stephen Curry, who was maybe 11 or 12 years old at the time, had to play against Carter a lot at the team's base.

“There are some names that are a little more special than others just because of past history,” Stephen Curry said. “My dad playing with Vince those three years in Toronto, I have countless memories: me and my brother being in the Raptor organization and playing one-on-one with Vince… it all came full circle. Those are pretty special moments.”
