Escape from the arcade at Terrorbytes
Treetop released Terrobytes 1.0bringing the chaotic co-op survival mode out of early access after a year of constant improvements. The game takes a simple idea and turns it into a living experiment in group dynamics, giving four players one shared energy bar and watching the consequences unfold. Each playthrough takes the team into corrupted arcade worlds filled with monsters, scattered objectives, and small puzzles that can be dealt with, although they are rare when panic sets in. The result is a fast-paced and unpredictable journey in which teamwork exists largely in theory and someone always ends up causing trouble.
“We started making a good game about teamwork” says director John Warner. “But as it turns out, the real magic happens when someone panics, drains the team's energy, and gets yelled at by their friends. Perhaps we created this game because we are incapable of love. I have a lot to think about.”
The complete version features a complete narrative and an ending that expands the world beyond its previous structure. It also comes localized into 14 languages, so players from all over the world can debate who caused the latest disaster. Five maps and multiple locations form the core of each session, and items and upgrades provide enough hope to keep teams moving forward. Various monsters add to the pressure by exploiting hesitation and miscommunication, making every encounter a bit of a test of patience.
Terrorbytes is now available on Steam with a new trailer that shows how quickly confident adults can fall into disarray. He invites each group of friends to get involved, stick together as long as possible and embrace the chaos that will follow.
