GTA 6 may not have a PC release yet, but the games industry is heading towards PC dominance, believes publisher’s CEO

Take-Two InteractiveThe company's CEO believes the gaming industry is heading toward PC dominance, despite the company's upcoming publishing stronghold. GTA 6 so far only planned for Xbox and PlayStation.

Strauss Zelnick made the comments earlier this week in a conversation with CNBC Scream Box. “I think [the industry is] move to PC, and the business is moving towards open rather than closed,” Zelnick said.

“But if you define a console as a property rather than a system, then the notion of a very intense game that you're engaged in for hours and hours and playing on a big screen—that's never going to go away,” the CEO continued.

Zelnick's comments come a week after Valve announced its own line of gaming hardware, including the Steam Machine. A hybrid of console and PC, on which you can run computer games on a TV or as on a regular gaming computer..

Zelnick also touched on the mobile gaming market, which he said is growing faster than the console market. “The mobile phone is certainly something you can take with you, it’s repeatable and it’s fun,” Zelnick said. “And I do think that because it appeals to the widest possible audience, it will likely continue to grow at a faster rate.”

During the earnings call, Zelnick said Take-Two expects its mobile business to grow about 10 percent in the next quarter.

Many publishers have moved to release their games on both PC and consoles. PlayStation, for example, has continually made its former console exclusives available through services like Steam in recent years. Earlier this year, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida admitted to porting Exclusive PlayStation games on PC 'almost like printing money'and provides the opportunity to invest in further games.

There are more no word on the release of GTA 6 for PC from Rockstar and Take-TwoAlthough. Earlier this year, Zelnick hinted that a GTA 6 PC release was on the way, but added that the company was not inclined to “work on all platforms at the same time.” At the same time, the head of Take-Two noted that the PC version of a multi-platform game can generate 40 percent of total sales.
