Oklahoma shocks Alabama to stay in College Football Playoff hunt

Fourth-ranked Alabama did not call the matchup against 11th-ranked Oklahoma a rematch, but Crimson Tide found himself in the loss column again on Saturday.

After beating Alabama 24-3 in Norman last year, the Sooners traveled to Tuscaloosa this weekend to bolster their position. College Football Playoff Odds. Oklahoma ultimately did just that, defeating Alabama 23-21.

Not even the rowdy crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium could stop Oklahoma's defense from turning around. The Sooners' defense scored 17 points with three turnovers on the way to victory.

The win boosts Oklahoma's playoff chances, but also adds uncertainty to the Tide's trip to Atlanta for the Southeastern Conference title game. It probably won't be a death blow for Alabama, but the Tide now have a must-win win in two weeks against archrival Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Sooners cornerback Eli Bowen returned an interception 87 yards for a touchdown, while linebacker Kip Lewis had two sacks. OU ended Alabama's 17-game home winning streak and handed second-year coach Kalen DeBoer his first loss to Tuscaloosa.

Despite dominating in nearly every category, Alabama made a number of costly mistakes. In addition to the turnovers, Alabama missed a 36-yard field goal and allowed a 46-yard kickoff return to set up Oklahoma's first goal.
