Michelle Obama said Americans don't want a woman as president and so they shouldn't expect her to run for the nation's highest office.
“As we saw in the last election, unfortunately, we are not ready,” Obama said. “That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running because y’all are lying. You are not ready for a woman. You are not ready.”
The former first lady and wife of President Barack Obama made the comments Nov. 14 at conversation with Tracee Ellis Ross at the Brooklyn Academy of Music to promote her new book, “The Look.”
“So don't waste my time,” she continued. “We still have a lot of growing up to do and unfortunately there are still a lot of men who feel like a woman can’t lead them and we’ve seen that. I think we still have some growing to do in that regard.”
Obama was often more popular than her husband while he was president, but often said she would not run for president. 2024 Poll passed while Democrats were considering removing the president Joe Biden suggested that only Obama can defeat the president Donald Trump.
But two of the last three Democratic presidential candidates have nonetheless been women—Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Vice President. Kamala Harris. Both lost to Trump.
