Flight Carrying Congressmen to D.C. Gets Diverted Over One AWFL’s Disruptive Rant – RedState

The collapse of the Democrats and the left is not simply attributed to the political class. Apparently, average Americans think it's perfectly acceptable to rant and scream during a crowded flight, even though their fellow passengers simply need to get to their destination without incident.

On Tuesday, one woman noticed she was sharing her flight with four members of Congress, so she saw it as the perfect opportunity to exercise her right to free speech.

Mmmm.

A plane carrying four members of Congress en route to Washington, D.C., to vote on ending the government shutdown was diverted due to a “disruptive passenger” who later told fellow passengers, “We live in a fascist state.”

Rep. Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) reported on X Tuesday that the American Airlines flight carrying him along with three Grand Canyon State Republicans — Reps. Eli Crane, Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar — was forced to make an “emergency stop in Kansas City” after an unruly passenger caused a disturbance after takeoff from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The plane was in the air for about 2 hours and 41 minutes when it was diverted to Kansas City International Airport and landed safely around 6:15 p.m., according to FlightAware.

Another passenger on the flight, Adam Burtner, caught the police escorting her and her parting words.

About an hour after the plane was diverted, it took off again from Kansas City International Airport and landed at Reagan National Airport at 9:01 p.m.

At the height of the pandemic in 2021, when the number of disruptive and unruly passengers was found to be at its highest, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) zero tolerance policy for disruptive passengers.

So, in addition to being arrested in a different city than the one she intended to land in, the AWFL sister (a wealthy white liberal woman) could face more jail time, fines of up to $37,000, and travel restrictions or placement on no-fly lists.

American Airlines issued a press statement regarding this matter. incident:

On November 11, American Airlines Flight 1218, flying from Phoenix (PHX) to Washington, D.C. (DCA), was diverted to Kansas City (MCI) due to a disruptive customer. Law enforcement met the flight and detained the client, and the flight later departed again to DCA, where it landed normally. We thank our customers for their patience and our crew members for their professionalism.

It's a good thing this happened on Tuesday because these congressmen needed to be in the House of Representatives on Wednesday to vote on whether to reopen the government. While they were simply inconvenienced, other passengers may well have missed connections or important events or meetings because this AWFL simply couldn't hold it together. And not just the passengers on that flight, but a cascade of flights and passengers that were undoubtedly terribly disrupted because ONE plane had to be diverted because of one selfish person.

But, you know, “fascist state” and all that. Bottom line: check yourself before you destroy yourself and others.
