The ability to play games through Netflix has been available on mobile devices for a while, but now you can finally play them on your TV, along with a host of new party games.
It works like this: the TV acts as the monitor and your phone is used as the controller. You can even play local multiplayer games as long as everyone has a phone.
Netflix hasn't added many new games to TV, and judging by this press release, the company is mostly sticking to party games, leaving games like the one it recently announced. Red Dead Redemption to your mobile services. Interesting, NBC News added that Netflix may take advantage of some of its popular IP addresses (Game “Squid”, “Stranger Things” etc.) and develop party games based on them to attract more casual audiences who might enjoy the shows. However, the company has tried this before with mobile games, with varying degrees of success.
Here is a list of games that will be released on TV:
- Boggle Party – Supports one to eight players.
- LEGO Party – Supports one to four players.
- Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends – Supports three to six players.
- Pictionary: Game Night – supports two to ten players.
- Tetris Time Warp – Supports one to four players.
- Dead Man's Party: Knives Out Game (coming soon)
Another thing to note is that most of the games on the list support more than just the classic four players, allowing large groups to play at the same time rather than taking turns. You can read more about each game in Netflix Press Releaseor the company has Instead, you can watch a longer 12-minute introductory video about this feature.
