Valve’s Steam Frame Will Support Android Games

Valve presented its first look at your new slot machinesincluding Steam Frame, a virtual reality headset that supports VR and non-VR games. Apparently, Steam Frame is also being used as a way to bring Android games directly to Steam users.

According to EdgeValve will support and encourage developers to post Android apps on Steam. As part of this initiative, Valve will release a Steam Frame dev kit for developers who are already using Android APKs for apps and VR headsets on Android phones.

“From a user perspective, we'd rather they don't even have to think about it,” explains Valve engineer Jeremy Celan. “They just have their games on Steam, they download them and click play… They're actually VR developers who want to publish their VR content, and they're porting a mobile VR game where they're already familiar with how to create these APK files. Now they can freely transfer them to Steam and just work on that device.”

This seamless transition from Android to Steam is possible because Steam Frame uses an Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip that can run apps directly. This will allow you to easily access Android games and VR apps on Steam Frame.

In addition to the Steam Frame, Valve announced the Steam Machine, which will be able to bring PC games into living rooms like a console, as well as a new Steam controller. Valve hasn't revealed prices for any of its new Steam devices. not yet, but hardware engineer Yazan Aldehayat said IGN that the Steam Machine will likely be competitively priced and an affordable alternative to consoles.

“If you're trying to build a PC with similar specs and similar performance, I think the Steam Machine is going to be really competitively priced and provide really good value,” Aldehayat said.
