Insta360 announced new accessories for its 8K Action Camera Ace Pro 2. Accessories expand the Ace Pro 2's capabilities as a video camera with three new lenses, a still camera with a redesigned grip, and a compact wireless printer that can turn snapshots into instant photos. They launch today as part of four new bundles that include the action camera itself.
The new Insta360 pocket printer is similar in size to other instant pocket printers from Fujifilm and Canon, but instead of using Zink or Instax paper, it uses the same dye-sublimation technology as the Insta360 printer. Polaroid Hi-Print, which is what we recommend in our buyer's guide.. The pocket printer connects wirelessly to the Ace Pro 2 via Bluetooth and produces 3-inch, 300 dpi prints that are laminated during the printing process, making them waterproof and fade-resistant. However, Insta360 says there is an Ace Pro 2 logo watermark on the border of each print that may not be able to be turned off. Replacement cartridges cost $9.90 for 20 prints.
The pocket-sized printer works as a standalone device, but can also be attached to the Ace Pro 2 camera using the quick-release mount on the bottom of the new Xplorer Grip Pro to recreate the experience of using a versatile Polaroid camera. Insta360 released a similar gripping accessory in March last yearbut there was an unusual lever on top to activate the camera's shutter button. The new Xplorer Grip Pro connects to and controls the Ace Pro 2 via USB-C using a redesigned shutter button with a zoom lever located on the grip.
The Xplorer Grip Pro has a dedicated dial on top that controls exposure by default, but its functionality can be customized in the Ace Pro 2's settings. Inside the grip, you'll also find an additional 2,010mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the camera's, which extends continuous 4K recording at 60fps for up to 2.5 hours.
In addition to the grip and printer, Insta360 is releasing new cinematic, ultra-wide and close-up lenses that can be attached to the camera, as well as new Leica color profiles and digital filters that will be available as part of a firmware update.
At launch, the new accessories will only be available as packages, with the cheapest being the $518.99 Xplorer Pro package, which includes the Ace Pro 2, batteries, and the Xplorer Grip Pro kit. The $579.99 Flash Print Bundle includes the same thing, but adds a pocket printer, a case for the camera's flip screen, and a leather carrying case.
Lenses seem to be the most expensive of all the new accessories. The limited edition Videography Bundle, priced at $604.99, includes the action camera, new grip, screen hood and cinematic lens. If you want all three lenses, you'll have to splurge on the Ultimate Videography Bundle for $739.99 instead. All four packages are available worldwide, but the Xplorer Pro package is currently only available in the US.
