The Sketchfab Asset Store will now require a “CreatedWithAI” tag on all models created with generative AI, as well as on Epic Games accounts.
In a press release, the company announced an update to its Terms of Use that will begin on December 11, 2025. First, new users who register on the site will use Epic Games accounts. Epic bought a store back in July 2021.
Notably, Sketchfab is also introducing a mandate for artificial intelligence assets. Previously, the store only required the “CreatedWithAI” label on models that were available for sale or download. This requirement now applies to every model created by AI, regardless of whether humans can download it or not.
“This helps maintain transparency throughout the community and makes it easier to find the type of content that interests you most,” the announcement reads. “New search filters that rely on accurately tagging models as “CreatedWithAI” will allow you to find or exclude AI-generated content.”
Additionally, Sketchfab said that in some cases, if the site detects that models were created using artificial intelligence, it “may” assign a label to those models.
Epic Games remains open to generative AI
As the end of 2025 approaches, game developers are still not warming up to generative AI, and some are more concerned than ever that technology will reduce the quality of games.
That being said, Epic Games remains open to using generational AI. In 2023, CEO Tim Sweeney stated that “we shouldn't assume that all generative AI is terrible or infringing.”
In 2022, Epic released Official AI Art Policy on the Artstation portfolio website, which is owned by Epic. The company said at the time that it believes artists “should have the freedom to decide how their art is used, while at the same time we don't want to become gatekeepers with site conditions that stifle AI research and commercialization while respecting artists' choices and copyright law.”
Returning to 2025, Epic acquired 3D asset marking technology based on artificial intelligence Loci back in April for an undisclosed fee. Loci's computer models have been trained on over 1 million 3D assets, which they claim allows them to “understand virtually any visual style.”
Regarding platform integration, Lucia Spezia, director of Epic's Machine Learning Solutions Group, said, “Epic creates and hosts a huge amount of 3D content in our ecosystem, and we are always looking for ways to automate artist workflows and improve content accessibility.”
“We look forward to working with the Loci team to develop new AI tools that will improve the way our community creates and modifies 3D content in Fab, Unreal Engine and our entire ecosystem,” Spezia added at the time.
Fab refers to another asset trading platformwhich was included in the Epic Games launch program back in September.
“Get access to Fab's entire library of diverse assets—and all of your Fab acquisitions—from the comfort of your launcher,” Epic explained in a brief announcement. “You can also one-click add to cart, batch download, and batch export assets directly into your favorite digital content creation (DCC) tool, simplifying your workflow.”
