It's already been a year Buffalo Bills defender Josh Allen. He won his first MVP award in February and received married to actress and musician Hailee Steinfeld. in May. Now it's time to add popular sports-related cat name inspiration to his 2025 resume.
According to a recent report from pet sitting website Rover, Josh Allen's name share is up 232% this year.
Allen linked to 'Jalen' apparently after Philadelphia Eagles defender Jalen Hurtsand “Manning”, supposedly inspired Texas defender Arch Manning – and maybe Peyton and Eli for first place.
“Luke” after Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic(up 51%) and Marchi, inspired by Florida Panthers star Brad Marchand(up to 32%) follows it on the list.
Sports-related dog names followed a similar trend, with “Arch” leading the way (up 181%), followed by “Josh Allen” (also up 181%). Other athletes who are among the top five athletes who inspired the naming of dogs: Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley in third (up to 81%), Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg (up 31%) was ranked fourth and golfer Scotty Scheffler (an increase of 22%).
New dog names include Barkley Saquon, C.D. Little Lamb (Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb) and Nacua (Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua). New names introduced for cats: Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs defender Patrick Mahomes), Travis KelseyJa'Marr (Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase) and Scotty Scheffler.
Rover also highlighted the city's sporting pet name trends this year.
Even though the Mavericks traded Doncic in a blockbuster trade in February, he remains popular among cat owners in Dallas, with Luka's popularity up 139%.
Chicago showed love to Sky forward Angel Reesewhile “Angel” leads the Windy City in names for cats (up 243%) and dogs (up 84%).
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Vembanyama saw huge benefits as inspiration for pet names last season. But this year the focus has shifted to the Spurs' legendary big three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.
Among dog names, “Tony” (up 629%) and “Manu” (up 229%) led the way, while among cats, Duncan dominated (up 239%).
