Amazon Music has announced a new Canada-only feature called Fan Groups, aimed at creating communities designed to bring fans of artists closer together.
Launching in beta on iOS and Android, the feature will add dedicated communities where users can “discover, share, connect and listen to music with other passionate fans.” Amazon notes that fan groups combine music discussion (such as group chats and forums) with streaming. The feature also allows users to share, discover, and listen to new content in the same place without having to navigate through separate apps.

Amazon has launched an initial beta launch with several active groups across several genres and themes, including indie rock, Punjabi, K-pop, francophone and country. According to press releasethese groups were created and populated by real listeners, and Amazon notes that they can be used as “entry points for research” or as templates for other users to create their own groups.
A quick note: All fan groups are public, and anyone on Amazon Music can create a new fan group, including artists who want a dedicated space to interact with their fans. Amazon Music says this open approach ensures that users with more niche music interests can find/create a community. At the same time, more popular genres may create subcommunities that focus on specific interests or elements that users enjoy.
The feature is currently only available in Canada, with a release planned for the US and other global markets next year.
