New York Giants reportedly fire head coach Brian Daboll after another lost season | New York Giants

New York Giants reportedly fired head coach Brian Daboll following Sunday's loss, which left the team at 2-8 and beginning another losing season.

ESPN reports this. The Giants made the decision after the Giants blew a double-digit lead in their loss to the Chicago Bears. It was the second time this season that a team lost a game in which it led by at least 10 points with less than four minutes remaining.

After Sunday's game, Daboll was asked about his job security and responded, “I'm just focused on these guys in the locker room.”

Daboll, who previously helped Josh Allen become one of the league's best players with the Buffalo Bills, is off to a great start to his Giants career in the 2022 season. He was named NFL coach of the year after leading the team to a surprise playoff appearance before they lost to their bitter rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the divisional round.

However, since then the team's fortunes have declined. They finished 6-11 in 2023, 3-14 in 2024 and will almost certainly miss the playoffs again this season.

Daboll is known for his short temper and has at times clashed with his coaching staff and players. His job, along with that of general manager Joe Schon, was in question at the start of the season, but Giants owner John Mara said he would keep them in place as long as results improved.

“I know how many games we've won and obviously the results are not even close to what we want them to be,” Mara said before this season. “They're going to have to get better if we're going to move forward.”

The Giants haven't improved and look set to begin their search for their fifth full-time head coach since 2016.
