One of Elden Ring’s most substantial free mods now has complete FromSoftware-style online multiplayer

FromSoftware's Elden Ring has inspired many mods that offer significant changes to the game, and now one of these mods has received a 2.0 update that adds a multiplayer mode to complete the game.

Elden Ring Reforged has been around for a few years now and offers a radically reimagined version of FromSoftware's RPG. It brings a ton of improvements to the base game, big and small, from new mechanics like deflection and dodging, to rune forging for passive effects, the Codex of the Omniscient with details on enemies, difficulty options, and new weapons, bosses, and spells among other changes.

However, when playing Elden Ring normally, you cannot use mods, which makes multiplayer difficult. Now, with the release of version 2.0, the Elden Ring Reforged team has created its own server, providing full-fledged FromSoftware-style multiplayer, complete with co-op and invasions, summons and messages.

Invasions are only possible in dungeons and not the rest of the world, which the team believes will create “more interesting invasion locations where players can use the environment and enemies to their advantage.”

In addition, those who participate in multiplayer will receive reward coins that can be exchanged for rewards. The mod also expands the Round Table's holdings with a new area called the Gilded Court, which now functions as a dueling center.

In addition to multiplayer, Elden Ring Reforged 2.0 includes many others. There's a brand new dungeon area, the Serpentine Depths, which explores the origins of Praetor Rijkaard; adds a sliding movement to evade attacks; new spells, weapons and spirit ashes appeared; and many minor tweaks and balance changes.

This is a significant upgrade to an already impressive remake of the game. But the addition of multiplayer now makes the game a complete game worthy of the game's original studio.

Elden Ring Reforged is available for download on Nexus Mods if you're interested check it out for yourself. It's completely free.

Elden Ring definitely has legs, and modders are still working on changes. FromSoftware is working on Switch 2 version – it was delayed last month until 2026 to “give time for performance adjustments.”

Last week, FromSoftware's parent company Kadokawa announced Multiplayer spin-off Nightreign will receive DLC by the end of this fiscal year (March 2026), and the Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods is still scheduled for release next year.
