Take Two Interactive has delayed the release of GTA 6 for the second time, moving next year's biggest release back six months to November 19, 2026. disclosed in the company's income statementwhich said it “gives the team extra time to finish the game at the high level the players expect and deserve. Rockstar, of course, has our full support and we are confident that they will deliver the ultimate blockbuster entertainment experience.”
In an interview with GamesIndustry.bizTake-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick didn't say this was the final delay, but said he was “confident in the date, which is why we set it.”
“We are committed to delivering the most outstanding interactive entertainment ever created. Rockstar and I agree on this and we really like it,” he said.
“As you know, sometimes our entire company, including 2K and our mobile business, sometimes needs more time to polish a game to ensure it ships in the best shape possible. And, of course, it will be released in the same financial year as the previous date.”
This is the second official delay for the game, which was originally announced for a December 2023 release and a 2025 release date. In May Rockstar delayed release until May 26, 2026with Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick I tell IGN at a time when “I think historically, when we set a specific date, generally speaking, we were very good at hitting it.”
Assuming this happens on the latter date, GTA 6 will release a full thirteen years later than its predecessor, which released in September 2013.
Other developers and publishers who would like previously it was planned to transfer key releases from GTA now it will have to do it again – and in the potentially much more significant period of the fourth quarter.
Gamesindustry.biz conducted an interview with Zelnick, in which he spoke about the delay and other news about the company's financial results, which will be published soon.
This article has been amended to correct the GTA 6 release date from November 26th to November 19th.
