Falconer The game turns five years old next week, and yesterday developer Tom Sala began working on a pretty big update. I think the update undersells it a bit because it's billed as a full-fledged remaster with an updated look and a lot of mechanical changes. So let's flesh out those details!
Firstly, it seems like landing should be a lot easier as you can land by simply flying next to the perch without having to press a button. Speaking of buttons, the dashboard and acrobatics have been redesigned and now have separate buttons and controls. Collision accuracy has now also improved, and traffic has become more dense.
Not only have the mechanics been updated, but your combat aircraft itself now looks fresher thanks to individual feathers and more detail. His head stays level when turning “(like birds of prey do)” and there are now wing and steering flex animations. Landing and jumping animations have also been improved, and bird collision avoidance should be less annoying. I always try to be less annoying! There is a long list of quality of life improvements, control tweaks, visual changes, bug fixes and even just new things that you can check out in this Message on Steam.
We spoke in more detail earlier. Message on Steam As for the remaster, which is available now and completely free for those who own the game, and included in the bundle if you haven't already purchased it, Sala has been quite open about the base game's launch. “Every episode is terrible, but this one was pretty bad by all accounts,” Sala wrote.
“And let's be honest, the PC launch suffered in many ways: I was annoyed by some of my own mistakes, some of the consequences of releasing a game on an indie console in a week when both Xbox and Playstation were launching their next generation.” Sala went on to explain that this was his chance to “make it better” and better reflect a game that is deeply personal to him, spending his free time working on this remaster whenever he could. As always, creating games is difficult! Good job.
If you don't have The Falconeer, you can try the game and its new remaster on Steam now completely free until November 10th.
