MiHoYo seems to be always busy. After printing huge amounts of money through games like Genshin Impact And Honkai: Star Railwaythey continue to do this with future releases such as Little Planet (or not Animal Crossing) And Honkai: Nexus Anima (Not Pokemon). Now it turns out they're also working on an MMO, apparently codenamed Genesis, which apparently includes AI in some capacity, just not clear in what capacity.
As noted on ResetEra (Thank you, Eurogamer), miHoYo shared a very short teaser video serving as a recruiting post of sorts for the said MMO, which is described as an “open-world fantasy realism game.” The details are quite small, which is not surprising, but here are the ones that deserve attention. It will be made in Unreal Engine 5, and will feature PvP, “Intelligent NPCs,” and two potentially controversial features: “AI-Driven Ecosystem” and “All-Terrain Combat AI.”
There are a few points worth mentioning here. Something may have been lost in translation here, so it may not be the bad AI that you and I hate. The term AI has apparently been used to describe NPC behavior for a long time, so it's entirely possible that this is the case. But miHoYo are not new to using AI. they even did it in Zenless Zone Zeroand I'm not sure what an AI-driven ecosystem could mean other than bad. So, take all of this with caution and skepticism until more details emerge.
Judging by the very short teaser that exists, whatever Genesis ends up being, it will likely be a lot less anime (as vague as that description may be) than games like Genshin Impact. A potential divergence for a company that relies on people getting too carried away by bubbly and overly nice women. Well, so does the random man these days. Diversity wins!
