White Stripes Celebrated by Olivia Rodrigo, Iggy Pop at Rock Hall

The White Stripes were invited to the Rock Hall by fellow Motor City rock icon Iggy Pop, who took the stage and led the crowd in a chant of “Seven Nation Army.” He held his speech in his hands and joked, “Let me see if I can read this shit.”

Pop described the duo as “the 21st century Adam and Eve of a rock 'n' roll band” and praised Meg's drumming, saying it was her support that launched “the racket rocket that was Jack White

Jack then took the podium himself to give his opening speech, thanking “Uncle Iggy.” Standing in a red suit and white tie, he said he spoke to Meg about honor and that Meg made “punctuation and corrections” to his speech. “I was talking to Meg White the other day; “she said she was really sorry she couldn't come tonight, but she's very grateful to the people who have supported her over the years, it really means a lot to her tonight,” he said.

Jack thanked the musical heroes of the White Stripes, and also named other iconic pop culture duos: Leiber and Stoller, Siegel and Shuster, Abbott and Costello. “I've played in a lot of bands myself that you've probably never heard of,” he said. “But for some reason, people were especially interested in this two-person duo project I was in called the White Stripes. We don't know why these things happen, but when they do, it's the most beautiful thing you can have as an artist or a musician, when people respond and share with you.”

“To young artists, I want to say get your hands dirty, ditch the screens, go into your garage or your little room and be obsessed,” he added. “Be obsessed with something, have passion. We all want to share what you can create.”
