Carney government will face 2nd crucial confidence vote on budget – National

Liberal government led by the Prime Minister Mark Carney about to meet his significant other vote of confidence in the House of Commons on Friday, after it survived the first on Thursday.

vote of confidenceThe budget amendment proposed by the Bloc Québécois is expected to be debated around 1:45 p.m. ET.

It comes after the NDP, Bloc Québécois and Green Party leader Elizabeth May voted with the Liberal minority to reject a Conservative sub-amendment to the budget in the House of Commons on Thursday.

The Conservatives' measure was an additional amendment to the Bloc's own budget amendment.

Governments must win a vote of confidence to remain in power.

Interim NDP Leader Don Davis said the party was still considering the Bloc proposal and would not say whether the NDP would vote against it.

The Conservatives and Bloc Québécois opposed the budget after it was unveiled on Tuesday, saying it did not meet their priorities.

The minority Liberals need two more votes to survive any confidence vote.

The party increased its seat count to 170 after Nova Scotia MP Chris d'Entremont resigned from the Conservative caucus on Tuesday. crossed the hall to join the liberalsbut has 169 votes, since the Speaker of the House of Commons does not vote unless there is a tie.

The current Speaker is Liberal MP Francis Scarpaleggia.
