Lewis Hamilton reacted to rumors linking him with Ferrari will leave at the end of 2026, sharing details about the length of his contract and when renewal negotiations typically begin.
The seven-time champion has signed a multi-year contract with the Maranello team for the start of the 2025 season. Since joining the team, Hamilton has struggled to adapt to such changes. Despite winning the sprint race in China, he is yet to celebrate a Grand Prix podium finish, with his best result at the time of writing being 4th at the Emilia-Romagna, Austrian, British and US Grands Prix.
After Haas Rookie Driver Oliver Birman Impressed with a fourth place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix, rumors began to circulate that the 20-year-old could replace Hamilton at Ferrari in the 2027 season.
Hamilton denied rumors ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“I have quite a long contract,” he told the media. “Usually when you sign a contract, it usually takes a year before you start talking about it. I'm a little far from that now.”
Turning his attention to the upcoming weekend in Sao Paulo, Hamilton added: “I think we've definitely made a lot of progress in the last month or so, the last couple of months. In the last race Charles obviously achieved a great result. I think it will change from race to race, depending on the track we're on.

“This is my first time driving for Ferrari here, so their car looked pretty good here last year. I don't know how she'll feel here, but I definitely hope so. Apparently they also resurfaced part of the track, so the track is pretty new.
“I hope we can drive the car as close to the limit as possible and achieve a good result. I hope that with the good weather in Brazil, maybe we can have a good weekend.”
The Brazilian Grand Prix weekend will feature the penultimate sprint race of the season, meaning the drivers will only have one practice session before heading straight into sprint qualifying today.
