Wilmington, Delaware Mayor John Carney blamed Philadelphia for the rise in homelessness in his city.
During a press conference last week, Carney announced new measures to combat homelessness crisisincluding designating Christina Park as a place for homeless people to sleep overnight.
Carney placed much of the blame on other cities and states that were reportedly busing homeless people into his city.

He singled out Philadelphia for its Stranded Traveler Assistance Program, which provided taxpayer-funded bus passes to any city in the country for homeless people.
“It’s just not right for these other places, cities and towns to send their people to Wilmington,” Carney said. “The constant influx from other cities and towns makes it difficult for us to care for the local population, and most importantly, it is unfair to the citizens living in these neighborhoods.”
When reached for comment, Carney's office told Fox News Digital that the mayor's comments were based on information received.

Earlier in May, Carney wrote to Philadelphia Mayor Sherell Parker about her Kensington Community Revitalization program, which aimed to clean up the open drug market in the Kensington area.

“Since the launch of the Kensington Community Revitalization Program, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness within our borders,” Carney wrote. according to 6ABC.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Parker's office for comment.
According to NBC PhiladelphiaBetween 2021 and 2025, Stranded Traveler Assistance funded 875 trips to 276 U.S. cities. Of those trips, 14 were to Delaware and eight were to Wilmington specifically.

Carney's comments come months after President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing cities and states remove the homeless streets for rehabilitation, treatment and other institutions.
