Tonight, November 6, 2026, Take-Two Interactive released its latest financial report, which included some pretty important revelations about the upcoming game. GTA 6. News Headline: Instead of launching on May 26, 2026, the game has been pushed back approximately six months to November 19, 2026. It was also confirmed by tweets from the official Rockstar Games accounts on social networks.
According to Take-Two, this delay is intended to allow “some additional time to finish the game at the high level that players expect and deserve. Rockstar, of course, has our full support and we are confident that they will deliver the ultimate blockbuster entertainment experience.”
This is not the first delay I saw the game this year. Back in May, it was confirmed that the game had been pushed back from its previous release date to May 2026.
As a result of this news, we are already starting to see Take-Two shares plummet. The story broke around 9pm UK time and the stock was down as much as 8% as of 9.35pm (see image below). In real terms, that means Take-Two shares are down about $30.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick spoke to IGN on the delay: “We had more time to develop the game. And now we are approaching the release. We are grateful that it is still in the same fiscal year. And most of all, we are grateful to Rockstar for their constant pursuit of excellence.
“We are very pleased with this release date. It's the same fiscal year, it's a great release window, and naturally we're really supportive of Rockstar's approach.”
Neither investors nor the general public seem to share the same sense of optimism as stocks continue to fall as I write this article.
GTA 6 is expected to release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on a new date of November 19th. And there is no doubt that it will be big, even despite this new setback: Take-Two confirmed earlier this year that GTA 5 has sold a staggering 210 million copies. since its release 12 years ago, so it's probably not unreasonable to assume that its long-awaited sequel will be able to do that and then some.
