Niland died just days after finding a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown in the Cowboys' 27-17 loss to Arizona on Monday night.
He was selected in the second round of the 2024 draft.
His debut season started off promisingly before he was sidelined for five games with a knee injury.
Niland got his first career sack in the season opener against Philadelphia. He has played in seven of nine games this year.
