Blues’ Jordan Binnington tries to pocket Alex Ovechkin’s milestone goal

St. Louis Blues Goaltender Jordan Binnington came under fire Wednesday night for attempting a quick goal after Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored a landmark goal.

Ovechkin scored his 900th career goal in the second period. He is the first player in NHL history to reach this milestone. But Binnington raised eyebrows when he tucked the puck into the back of his hockey gear. The line judge tried to take the puck from the stunned goalie.

The Russian superstar was asked about this after Capitals Victory with a score of 6-1.

“Yeah, I just saw it,” he said when a reporter asked about it. “You know, I won’t comment on this.”

Ovechkin's teammate Logan Thompson tried to take the high road.

“Maybe he was trying to grab it to give it to him,” he sheepishly told reporters.

Social media has been a little more unkind.

Ovechkin returned the puck. He posed with it in the locker room.

Ovechkin's puck will likely bring in a lot of money, if not now then sometime in the future, as no other active player NHL player chases about 700 career goals.

After Ovechkin Pittsburgh Penguins Star Sidney Crosby has 634 goals.

Binnington was later ejected from the game after allowing four goals. He said he was not available for further comment. Athletic.

After the latest fiasco, he may have a more serious problem. This is the fourth time this season that Binnington has allowed at least four goals. He also lost in overtime against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 21 and received a losing decision in the shootout against the Vancouver Canucks last week.

The Blues dropped to 4-8-2 and 10 points this season. They are in last place in the Western Conference Central Division. The Blues have a goal difference of minus 21.
