Meta has begun rolling out the latest firmware update for its Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. The V19.2 update is available this week and improves Garmin integration and video recording for the first and second generation Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta wearables.
Improvements to Garmin device integration allow Meta users to sync Garmin stats with videos and photos, query Meta AI for health information, and receive real-time voice updates on fitness metrics during activity. These features were previously exclusive to the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, but are now available to everyone.
In terms of video improvements, the update brings selectable stabilization modes (auto, low, medium, and high), the ability to record five-minute clips (instead of three minutes), and the ability to record 1080p video at 60fps—not bad for a camera you wear on your face.
If you have your meta glasses set to “auto update”, all you have to do is make sure your glasses are charged and connected to your phone via Bluetooth and they will automatically update wirelessly. If you want to check for updates manually, follow these steps:
-
Open Meta Application AI.
-
Click on the glasses icon in the upper right corner.
-
Select the gear icon next to the glasses.
-
Click “Updates”
-
Click “Check” to check if your device is up to date with the latest version.
Ray-Ban Metas have been my daily wear glasses for over a year now. and they are my choice best smart glasses on the market overall. One of the reasons I like them so much is that Meta provides regular software updates. The company makes fixes and adds features about every six to eight weeks, and the improvements are usually noticeable.
The August update added an AI photo restyle and Google Calendar and Outlook integration, while the May update added Live AI and translation features. The rate of updates matches the platform rather than the gadget, making it feel like these smart glasses are built for long-term use rather than a buy-one-this-year-then-buy-new-next-year gadget.
