Jensen Huang, the head of the world's most valuable company, Nvidia, says King Charles III personally gave him a copy of a speech he gave in 2023, which included warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence.

“He said I want to talk to you about something. And he gave me a letter,” Huang told the BBC, speaking after receiving the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering at a ceremony at St James's Palace.

The letter was a copy of a speech given by the king in 2023. world's first artificial intelligence summit held at Bletchley Park.

In it, the monarch said risks posed by artificial intelligence must be addressed “with a sense of urgency, unity and collective strength.”

“It was his speech about AI safety. He obviously cares very deeply about AI safety,” Mr. Huang said.

Mr Huang said the king wrote in his speech that he believed in technology's “incredible ability” to change Britain and the world.

“But he also wants to remind us that this technology can be used for both good and evil, and therefore do everything possible to improve the safety of AI.”

In the king's address he describes the development of advanced artificial intelligence is “no less important than the discovery of electricity.”

Jensen Huang received the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering on Wednesday, along with six other seminal figures in artificial intelligence, including professors Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton, who warned that technology poses a real threat to humanity.

But US President Donald Trump has called for the AI sector to advance technology quickly rather than cautiously, and earlier this year the AI Security Summit was renamed the AI Action Summit.

Senator Howard Lutnick disapproves of the use of the word “security” on the grounds that “it makes us sound like we're afraid.”

Mr. Huang's company, Nvidia, was valued at $5 trillion this week. It specializes in advanced computer chips, including those based on artificial intelligence.

Mr Huang added that he believed the UK was well positioned to take advantage of what he called “the industrial revolution that is happening right now”.

“This is your opportunity to take advantage,” he said.

Major US tech companies, including Nvidia, are investing billions of dollars to build out artificial intelligence infrastructure in the UK in the form of huge data centres, which Jensen Huang has dubbed “AI factories”.
