This is what Y2K dreams are made of. Earlier this week Hilary Duff announced that she will release her new song “Mature” on November 6th, her first new music since her last album, 2015. Breathe in. Exhale.
Speaking with host Jake Shane in the final episode of the channel's second season Therapist podcast, Duff talked about her return to the studio and shared some thoughts about her new single. “It was always going to happen,” Duff said. “It can’t help but become part of my story.”
The pop star and Disney alum said that after 10 years away from music and where she is now in her life at 38, she feels “ready to fill in the gaps, share with people and connect with them on a real level.”
“Obviously it's taken a lot of twists and turns and ups and downs and everything, but I have a crazy connection with the fans that I've known since I was nine or 10 years old and I just want to connect with them again,” she continued. “We've been through a lot of the same things—whether it be difficult relationships, anxiety, parenting, divorces, trying to find ourselves as adults, family drama… I finally felt safe and comfortable enough in my family to come out and rediscover that part of myself.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Duff described “Mature” as “talking to my younger self about experiences that we've had and just reflecting on them and being okay with it and having a little self-mocking moment with yourself and accepting your past and being okay with where you find yourself.” The singer also said that the music video shows “the journey of two selves meeting” and includes a “cute butterfly moment” which has since become a big theme in her life. The news of her upcoming single comes about two months after its release. announced that Duff had signed a deal with Atlantic Records and would be featured in a documentary series following her return to music. According to a press release, the project, which is directed and executive produced by Sam Wrench (A Pointless Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter And Taylor Swift: Eras Tour), will chronicle “the highs, the lows, and everything in between” and advertises that “fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, rehearsing for live shows and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade.”
