Disneyland’s best ride is coming to Fortnite this week as part of a “playful” 70th anniversary “experience”

Maybe I'm not that keen Fortnite these days, but if there's something that's guaranteed to pique my interest anythingit's a crossover of Disney's Haunted Mansion. So, for a man who has been obsessed with the five-and-a-half-decade-old theme park attraction since he was three years old, it looks like a reboot is just around the corner. Epic has announced that a new “playful” Fortnite experience celebrating Disneyland's 70th anniversary will release on November 6th.

Hints that something was happening at the Haunted Mansion first appeared on Disney Park's official Instagram feedwhich featured the iconic image of the attraction's sprawling room, reimagined to include Fortnite characters like Peely and Fishstick. “There are no windows or doors in this lobby,” the caption read, suggesting that the real chill, as they say, will come later.

And this “later” did not take long to arrive. Before we could even finish wondering why everyone missed Halloween, Disney and Epic gave the answer: there's simply more to it than those 999 happy places. The Haunted Mansion is coming to Fortnite this week as part of the recently announced Disneyland Game Rush; Fortnite Creative's “playful, limited-time” island “experience” created in honor of Disneyland's 70th anniversary.

Starting with a Disneyland-inspired hub featuring a central sculpture modeled after Sleeping Beauty Castle and a skyline of familiar resort landmarks, up to 11 players can branch out to explore one of seven “quick play” mini-games. Haunted Mansion fans get Scavenger Haunt, Space Mountain brings Rocket Race, there's Matterhorn: Slip and Lift, Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Stealth, Star Wars: Stormtrooper Showdown, Indiana Jones: Tomb Runner and WEB-Slingers: Spider-Bot Blasters. Completing these mini-games unlocks island-specific cosmetics, so if I don't get to show off my hatbox head, I'll be wildly disappointed.

Speaking of disappointment, I was prepared to grumble about the fact that the Scavenger Hunt wasn't quite the massive Haunted Mansion explosion in Fortnite I had imagined after seeing the original Disney Park post, but IGN has screenshots from Disneyland Game Rush – with waltzing ghosts at a dinner party and, YES, a hatbox – and actually looks pretty neat.

Disneyland Game Rush kicks off on July 6 (can be found by island code 4617-4819-8826) and serves as a prelude to the main event. Announced last February, Disney in partnership with Epic to create “an expansive and open universe of Fortnite-related games and entertainment” that, judging by the concept art, looks a lot like a virtual theme park. We may have more news on this soon.
