There's probably no better place than the woods or woods that just suck. Just a confusing, frightening, and sometimes enchanting chaos of nature, in which it is impossible to navigate. Today's latest update for Peak it just so happens that it presents this appearance: tall beautiful trees and again a wonderful sense of scale.
This new update is appropriately called Roots! I'm sure I don't need to explain to you the meaning of this word. Besides the big old trees, there are new nasties like spiders and giant beetles to ruin your pilgrimage to the top, and, judging by the update trailer, a fungal zombie infection taking over the bodies of your compatriots. Really conceptually terrifying stuff for such a cute game. I like it!
There are also 11 new badges to earn in the Roots biome, as well as some biome-specific items such as mushrooms that have random effects, a couple types of mushrooms, and some other secret items. There are also several new items found throughout the biomes, such as the Rescue Claw (does what it says on the tin), the Checkpoint Flag (does what it says on the tin), and the Book of Bones (does what it says on the tin?).
You'll also find that cooking has been rethought. According to Message on Steam As for the update, “now a lot more non-food items actually do something when cooked,” for example. Once cooked, poisonous berries can be eaten, but poisonous mushrooms cannot. And cooked “usable but non-food items, such as bandages, will no longer grant additional stamina.”
There are also a few bug fixes, and apparently the divorce court allowed Bing Bong to visit his kids on weekends, which is an odd sentence written as part of my job, but hey, I have bills to pay. The Roots update is available right now, so get ready.
