Club managers in almost any department can rest easy knowing that their performance can hardly be worse than Football Manager 26. The latest installment of the long-running management simulator has been criticized for bugs, a poor user interface and a lack of features present in previous installments, to the extent that it is now one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam.
Sports interactive and SegaThe company's latest Football Manager game launched on November 4 after a short period of beta access for those who pre-ordered it, and PC players are not happy. Steam release is at “Mostly Negative” and has over 2,100 reviews as people express their feelings about this release.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed by a game I was so excited to play,” says another. “Besides, there are a million glitches and errors, I don’t recommend it to anyone,” says a third. “I've been playing FM for two decades now and I can say this is the worst version ever.”
These are just a few of many, with a large contingent of longtime fans who have played the series for decades and now feel completely left out. It's not all bad, with some praising the improved tactical control and match re-creation, but these aspects seem to pale in comparison to what for many is a rather miserable experience.
At the moment FM26 is seventh worst rated game throughout the entire Steam catalog. This is not a timeline that anyone wants to be a part of, and doing it 24 hours after launch is tough.
It doesn't help that FM26 is coming out after a two-year hiatus since FM25 was cancelled, and it's the first game built using the Unity engine. Expectations were higher than usual, and they clearly weren't met within the PC community. Sports Interactive has yet to comment, but the developers will have to make significant changes to make any difference.
