Poppy poll amazement

I had to laugh at the Sunday's Sun poll. The question was: “Do you wear a poppy every November,” and to my surprise, 96% answered yes. I was wondering if this survey was conducted among different populations in the city of Calgary because the math doesn't add up for me and as you walk daily, look around and do the math. Thank you to all the brave men and women who fought, served and gave their lives for our freedoms and celebrate their brave deeds.

KEN WATCH

Cheney really…
The Greatest Lie Encouraged Dick Cheney was to allow the invasion of Iraq to be seen as part of the war on terror. Cheney knew that there was no connection between 9/11 and Iraq and that Iraq had never sponsored terrorism on American soil. As for the other big lie of his career, that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, he probably believed it to be true. Cheney and other US officials, including Colin Powell, were not sufficiently skeptical about the false intelligence they were receiving. His assessment of Donald Trump in his final years demonstrates a much keener sense of truth.

Get away from your phones
Just reading Ricky Leong's November 4th column (“Time to wise up,' Calgary Sun, November 4). Some of his points are correct in that drivers need to be more attentive when pedestrians are nearby. But today's pedestrians put on headphones and walk like zombies straight into traffic, and it's impossible to say that a day goes by that you don't see it. Not at all different from drivers with their damn phones, at traffic lights or not. Get these phones out of sight and enforce this law. Good pedestrians are also dangerous.

Diane Ladd will be missed
Rest in peace, Diane Ladd. The no-nonsense Southern belle and three-time Oscar nominee brought a lot of herself to the table with a “scene-stealing twist” in Alice doesn't live here anymore, Wild at heartAnd Rambling Rose. Condolences to daughter Laura Dern.
