Switch 2 achieved the highest global sales of any Nintendo platform in its first four months of launch.
During the briefing held following the latest financial results of the platform holderNintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa also said that Switch 2 sales are “growing at the fastest pace in history.” [its] specialized platforms for video games.”
Switch 2 sales reached 10.36 million units in its first four months on the market, more than double what the original Switch achieved in the same period.
Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo will “ensure a stable supply of hardware” while expanding production to meet “demand that exceeds expectations.” problem that was resolved before launch.
Looking ahead, Furukawa said Nintendo will focus primarily on software development for the Switch 2 and expand its business around the platform.
He stressed that Nintendo will continue to sell the original Switch hardware, which has “maintained strong sales momentum even after the launch of its successor.”
Nintendo also provided insight into consumer habits, noting that 84% of Switch 2 users are players coming from the original Switch, while 16% are new players.
“Consumers who purchased Switch between its launch in 2017 and the launch of Switch 2 are gradually switching to Switch 2,” Furukawa noted.
On the software front, Furukawa said an estimated nine out of ten consumers who bought the Switch 2 have played Mario Kart World, with 9.57 million units sold since the console's launch.
These statistics include consumers who purchased the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World Bundle, as well as digital sales.
The second major game for the console, Donkey Kong Bananza, sold 2.6 million units in its first 12 weeks of launch.
Furukawa also noted that “strong support” from third-party publishers has meant that Switch 2 has the “largest lineup of third-party software for new Nintendo hardware ever.”
Nintendo reported strong growth for the first six months ended September 30, 2025, with sales jumping 110% to 1.1 trillion yen ($7.2 billion) and operating profit rising 19.5% to 145.1 billion yen ($950 million).
The firm also revised down its full-year forecast, forecasting net sales of 2.25 trillion yen ($14.6 billion, up 93.1%) and operating profit of 370 million yen ($2.4 billion, up 30.9%).
Switch 2 hardware sales are expected to be 19 million units (up 26.7%) and software sales at 48 million units (up 6.7%).
