Welcome to Derry has already made a huge first impression, and there's a lot more to enjoy across the eight parts. HBO Max row.
In my Welcome to Derry review, I called the series “a long-awaited expansion of Stephen King's massive novel,” and I also had the chance to talk to the creators about what's coming in the next few weeks.
I’m not alone in my excitement; this is how Stephen King himself recently reacted to the series, exclusively telling Message. “I like Welcome to Derry many.
“There's a lot of horror and a lot of surreal visuals. The fear of a supermarket full of jars of pickles stuck in my mind.”
The Muschietti siblings spoke about collaborating with King during our roundtable, saying, “We pitched him the idea for the show about 4 years ago. We talked to him about it and he said, “Great, let's do it.”
“I think he was just as curious about where this was going as we were. And we told him that we had a strange desire to tell the story in reverse. So we went from 1962, which was the first season, to 1935 and then to 1908.”
“There's a very specific reason why we're telling the story backwards. I can't tell you yet, but there is a reason why we walk backwards, but without knowing why, he immediately said, “That's a good idea.”
“From then on, I think he was very open to exploration, because although the book is huge and full of stories and characters, they are all very fragmented and partially told.”
Although more Welcome to Derry hasn't been greenlit yet, it looks like there are at least two more seasons. If it gets renewed, we'll see a lot more of it, so I'm really crossing my fingers for that to happen.
