Charlie PlummerStephen Graham Toni ColletteIsabela Merced, Maisie Stella and Sir Anthony Hopkins will star in Ibelin, the story of a man with a degenerative muscle disease who enjoyed a rich digital life thanks to “World of Warcraft” The film will be directed by Morten Tyldum, the Oscar-nominated director of The Imitation Game. It is based on the true story of Mats Steen – the title is inspired by the name of Steen's virtual alter ego in the popular video game.
Ibelin is written by BAFTA nominee Ilaria Bernardini (The Citadel: Diana) and Oscar nominee Hossein Amini (The Wings of the Dove) and is based on Steen's blog, Reflections on a Life. The film follows both the group of World of Warcraft fans who become Steen's fans and his loving, funny, and chaotic family.
Vendôme Pictures is collaborating with Pathé on the film. It follows their collaboration in CODA, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi of Vendôme Pictures are producing the film along with Jérôme Seydoux of Pathé and Tyldum and Guri Neby for Neby-Tyldum AS. The film is financed by Vendôme and Pathé. Black Bear represents international rights and CAA Media Finance represents domestic rights and will be introduced to buyers at the upcoming U.S. Film Market. Principal photography will take place in Europe in 2026.
Plummer most recently starred in Francis Lawrence's The Long Walk. His credits include “All the Money in the World” and “Lean on Pete.”
Graham recently won three Emmy Awards for his heartbreaking performance as a father in the Netflix hit Teen, which he created and starred in. He also starred in the films Springsteen: Deliver Me Out of Nowhere, The Irishman and The Rocketeer.
Collette can currently be seen in the Netflix series Wayward and has also appeared in the films Hereditary, Knives Out and The Sixth Sense, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Merced starred in The Last of Us and appeared as Hawkgirl in Superman.
Stella starred in the film My Old Ass and will star in Maude Apatow's feature directorial debut, Poetic License.
Hopkins won Oscars for his work in The Silence of the Lambs and The Father. He also appeared in The Remains of the Day, Howards End and The Two Popes.
