Nintendo Switch 2 is exceeding Nintendo's expectations after selling more than 10 million units worldwide in less than four months.
As noted in Nintendo's financial report for the second quarter ended September 30, 2025.Since its launch on June 5, the console has sold exactly 10.36 million units worldwide.
Switch 2 software sales totaled 20.26 million units during the period. World of Mario Kart (a launch game that was included in some hardware packages at launch), sold 9.57 million copies.
Donkey Kong Bananza made 3.49 million sales after its July 17 launch.
This is an impressive result that has led Nintendo to update its Switch 2 hardware and software sales forecast for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.
The company now expects the Switch 2 to sell 19 million units by the end of its fiscal year, up from the 15 million it originally predicted. The Switch 2 software sales forecast was also raised to 48 million units from 45 million units.

A closer look at the company's financial report shows that net sales for the half year increased 110.1 percent year-on-year to 1.01 trillion yen ($6.6 billion). Operating profit rose 19.5 percent to 145.1 billion yen ($944 million).
“Hardware sales increased significantly during the first half of the year, driven by the launch of Nintendo Switch 2,” Nintendo explained. “The fact that the unit price of Nintendo Switch 2 is higher than that of Nintendo Switch also contributed to the increase in net sales, and sales of our dedicated video game platform increased by 119.7 percent year on year to 1,066.1 billion yen.”
The company reported a 12.4% year-over-year decline in IP sales, primarily due to lower revenue related to The Super Mario Bros. film. Movie. Digital sales also fell 2.8 percent year-on-year to 155.5 billion yen ($1 billion) due to factors including the impact of currency exchange rates and lower sales of download-only software.
Nintendo said it will aim to maintain momentum as it approaches the end of the calendar year with the launch of games such as Kirby Air Riders in November and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in December. Debut Pokemon Legends: ZA in October will also be taken into account in the company's next financial report.
Nintendo raised its consolidated financial forecast with the release of Switch 2. The Japanese publisher now expects to report net sales of 2.25 trillion yen ($14.6 billion) and operating profit of 370 billion yen ($2.5 billion) when the fiscal year comes to an end.
