Are you excited to find all the fault anomalies in The Outer Worlds 2? In all likelihood, you will encounter distorted and displaced portions of reality as you travel through inhospitable areas. If you try to approach these places, your character will die instantly. However, once you acquire a nifty gadget, you'll soon be able to interact with these strange phenomena.
How to obtain and use the Rift anomaly modulator or prototype Rift device
The Rift Anomaly Modulator, also known as the Prototype Rift Device, is just one of several gadgets/tools in the game. It comes from a main quest called “A Tool to Unlock Space and Time”, which takes place on the planet Praetor. Here's a summary of what you can expect:
- The Praetor, like other planets/locations, is part of the middle stage of the campaign. Once you arrive, find a way to get to the western part of the region to enter the Interstitial Reconfiguration Center.
- There are many Protectorate enemies in the region, but you can also help an NPC named Lead Researcher Hurley. As for the gadget, it is located in the 4th level section of the facility.
- Once the device is in your possession, simply approach the Rift Anomaly and press the interact button. This will open a distorted/hidden pocket of reality that has been swallowed up by the rift.
- Objects that appear include ledges/platforms you can climb onto, invisible/hidden pieces of equipment, various containers, and so on. You can also pick up Rift Residue materials for crafting.
- Please note that the Rift Anomalies will return to their distorted form after a few seconds, but you will still be able to interact with them using the gadget. Don't accidentally enter them, otherwise your character will die.
